The Ohio River Greenway

The Ohio River Greenway was a publicly funded project that connected New Albany, Clarksville, and Jeffersonville through a multi-use pathway. The project has been a huge success, connecting the three communities and adding new opportunities for bikers, runners, and casual weekend strollers to reconnect with the Ohio River. In 2016, the City of New Albany acquired ownership of the Silver Creek Bridge, and upon renovation, completed the connection of the Ohio River Greenway to our other nearby communities.

Connections on Connections

While the Ohio River Greenway was successful in connecting the 3 communities of Clarksville, Jeffersonville, and New Albany, the New Albany Shoreline will further connect these trails and paths into an even bigger trail and parks system.

The Ohio River Greenway will be connected (to the north) into the 68-mile-long “South Monon Freedom Trail” stretching through 5 Indiana counties (Clark, Floyd, Lawrence, Orange, and Washington), and connecting nine Indiana towns and cities (Bedford, Mitchell, Saltillo, Campbellsburg, Salem, New Pekin, Borden, Orleans, and New Albany).

To the east, the Ohio River Greenway would further connect into Clarksville and its future Origin Park plans, Jeffersonville and the Big Four Bridge, and the Louisville Trail Loop System, culminating in a massive recreational parks and trails system.

Building on Success

The Ohio River Greenway is an overwhelming public success, and the additions coming to the New Albany Shoreline will bring new amenities and continue the forward momentum towards a large recreational parks and trails system.
